The name of Merlot derives from the fact that its grapes, as well as being a favourite food of the blackbird (Merlo in Italian), are a deep black colour, reminiscent of the feathers of these birds.
An excellent wine for everyday drinking, Merlot has a rather intense ruby red colour, full of violet hues; when it is young it is lively, and extremely drinkable, characterized by a slight grassy undertone
Excellent with gnocchi and pasta dishes as well as rabbit and poultry. Serve around 16°
